Calls for organic farming resound worldwide.

In India, a paper published for the Punjab state Farmers Commission is advocating organic growing practices, while the Punjabi organization Kheti Virasat Mission (KVM) has called on all farmers to grow produce organically for the sake of endangered biodiversity and to protect humans and animals from toxic chemicals. In the Philippines, the consortium Go Organic! reports that 91 out of the 144 rice paddy fields in the country can no longer provide sufficient yield because of depleted soil nutrients. In addition, exposure to chemical pesticides and fertilizers have been found to cause detrimental health effects such as skin and respiratory problems, and even fatalities. Go Organic! is thus already preparing to convert 10 percent of 1.9 million hectares of Philippine rice lands into organic rice fields.

A green hats off, Kheti Virasat Mission, India, Go Organic!, the Philippines and all others involved in making the lives-saving change to growing produce organically. We pray that endeavors such as these and the adoption of their plant-based harvests are evermore widely implemented for the restoration of our unique planet.

In an August 2008 videoconference with our Association members in Sydney, Australia, Supreme Master Ching Hai explained the key role of government in furthering the trend of organic farming.

Videoconference with Supreme Master Ching Hai
with Sydney Center, Australia – August 17, 2008

Supreme Master Ching Hai: Every government should concentrate on giving the farmers encouragement, subsidies, so that they grow organic farming. There are green technology to be working on. And if we are vegetarian, then there will be very less expense. There’s no need to have so much tax even. Because people will not be sick anymore. There’s no more tax to build more hospitals. No more tax to build more equipment. And everybody will live in peace. And the governments of all the countries will share all their wealth to all the people and everyone will have enough

Livestock producers required to reveal emissions.

A new regulation has gone into effect in the United States that requires livestock operations to report estimated emissions of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide to state and local authorities. This Environmental Protection Agency ruling resulted in part from the harmful effects to human health noted from these gases, which are emitted as a byproduct of certain livestock raising situations.

US Environmental Protection Agency, we are grateful for this measure to safeguard public health. Our prayers that all people soon turn to the meat-free diet for a safer and cleaner environment for all.

During the Climate Change International Conference on July 26, 2008 in California, USA Supreme Master Ching Hai spoke via videoconference about the dangerous health risks of gases emitted by the animal farming industry.

Supreme Master Ching Hai: Just the hydrogen sulfide alone can cause irritation of different body organs: eyes, nose, throat, bronchial constriction, spontaneous abortion, impaired bodily functions, headaches, dizziness, vomiting, coughing, difficult breathing, eye damage, shock, coma, and death, etc. If concentrated dose is high enough like, for example, 1,000 parts per million, ppm, then even one single inhalation, cause immediately breathing stop and collapse.

So there were some reports about animal farms in Minnesota which produce also hydrogen sulfide that causes people in the vicinity to vomit so much that they had to flee their own homes. And another incident in North Carolina, in which residents from 26 counties are forced to stay indoor as the air quality so was poor and filled with pollutant, including highly toxic gas, hydrogen sulfide, from animals. I’m sure these are not the single incidents concerning hydrogen sulfide produced by livestock raising.

European Parliament supports reducing meat to lower greenhouse gases.

During discussions on greenhouse gas reduction goals, the Climate Committee of the European Parliament officially recognized livestock’s contribution to global warming and recommended a review of subsidies to the livestock industry to bring about a reduction in methane. Bravo and thank you European Parliament, and all others for your efforts to save our planet by allowing the true cost of meat to be reflected in the market, while encouraging the consumption of health-giving plant-based foods.

In an interview with James Bean of the radio program, “Spiritual Awakening”, Supreme Master Ching Hai had detailed the benefits of an animal-free diet in halting the effects of climate change.

Supreme Master Ching Hai: In order to save ourselves, we must be vegetarian. A vegetarian diet is the nonviolence in the highest sense. And vegetarian diet is a love in action. Don’t you think?

James Bean – Radio host, HealthyLife.Net Spiritual Awakening (M): Yes, if you love animals, why eat them? SM: Yes. And a vegetarian diet will stop 80% of global warming, stop all the cruelty, beginning on our plate. Generating loving, kind energy around the world, stop water shortage and water pollution, stop food shortages, stop world hunger and war, prevent deadly diseases, save enormous tax and medical bills to build a better world, and support new useful inventions and good people’s organizations.
